What's the Difference Between a "Provider" and a "Doctor?"

We often use the term "provider" instead of "doctor" because there are members of a care team who are not doctors. "Provider" can refer to nurse practitioners and physician assistants, hospitals and other facilities, suppliers of medical equipment, and other health care professionals, such as physical therapists and speech therapists.

Martin's Point serves different patients in different ways. We have Health Care Centers offering primary care in Bangor, Brunswick, Portland, So. Portland, West Falmouth, Biddeford and Gorham Maine and Portsmouth, New Hampshire. These Health Care Centers serve their local communities and accept all major health insurance plans. The Health Care Centers also care for our US Family Health Plan members who are in these communities.

For our US Family Health Plan and Generations Advantage members who live outside of our Health Care Center service areas, we offer an extensive network of Primary Care Providers, hospitals, specialists, and other services.

And, for PointPartners, our health system for self-insured employers, we provide different provider networks to meet the needs of the employer groups we serve.
