Martin’s Point Health Care Announces Affiliation of Bowdoin Medical Group

Less than one year after announcing the possibility of an affiliation, Bowdoin Medical Group, a multi-site primary care practice in Maine, is now a subsidiary of Martin’s Point Health Care.
This makes Martin’s Point Health Care one of the largest independent primary care groups in Southern Maine, with 61 providers caring for close to 76,000 patients. While many health care mergers result in consolidation, Martin’s Point will not close any practice locations or discontinue any services offered. The organization will remain community-based with now 9 locations in communities stretching from Portsmouth, NH, to Bangor, Maine.
“Together we are better able to leverage best care practices and information technology to continually improve patient care,” said Dr. David Howes, President and CEO of Martin’s Point Health Care.
Almost doubling in size, the larger organization can more easily influence the health care delivery system to improve patients’ health outcomes and experience of care. “These are all things the current administration and policymakers in Washington believe must happen to successfully reform the health care system, ” said Jeff Bland, former Bowdoin Medical Group CEO and now Vice President of Delivery System Operations at Martin’s Point Health Care.

Bowdoin Medical Group offices are located in Biddeford, Gorham, South Portland, West Falmouth, and Brunswick, Maine. All physicians are board-certified and practice in the specialties of family practice, pediatrics and internal medicine. Additional services include physical therapy in Brunswick, sports medicine in West Falmouth and aesthetic skin care and laser services in South Portland.
Martin’s Point operates health centers in Portsmouth, NH, and Portland, Brunswick and Bangor, Maine. Additional services include on-site laboratory services and health education, as well as cardiology, general surgery, pharmacy, radiology, and travel medicine in Portland.
Martin’s Point Health Care is a not-for-profit regional health care provider operating health centers in Maine and New Hampshire. All are open to the community. Martin’s Point also administers the US Family Health Plan in Northern New England and New York State as well as Medicare Advantage health plans and employer wellness and health management services in Maine.
