The trust works to preserve natural and agriculture lands, enhance habitats for plants and wildlife, and advance the quality of life for local communities.
Formed over 40 years ago by local residents, the Falmouth Land Trust (FLT) began preserving green space just to the north of Maine's largest city—providing places to disconnect from technology and reconnect to the natural world.
Today, the Falmouth Land Trust stewards over 1,500 acres of land and many of the 55+ miles of trails in the town.
The Trust hosts free monthly nature hikes open to all and works with school and community groups promoting environmental education and stewardship. Additionally, it operates Hurricane Valley Farm in North Falmouth and partners with Cultivating Community, which uses part of the property to provide farming, education, and community agriculture to residents, new Americans, and the Greater Portland area.
