Building Maine's Health Care Workforce with Maine AHEC Network at the University of New England.
The Maine Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Network, based at the University of New England (UNE), is a statewide program with a mission to prepare and support Maine's health care workforce by creating learning opportunities for youth, students, and professionals to foster healthier communities and expand access to care across Maine.
Promoting Diversity in Maine's Health Care Workforce
Every year, Maine AHEC Network hosts free learning opportunities for high school students from rural or underrepresented communities featuring hands-on activities to learn about careers in health care. Participants also receive guidance with the college admissions process and support as they pursue health care degrees.
- Health Career Exploration Camp—Martin’s Point teams up with Maine AHEC Network at UNE for this three-day, on-campus event—hosting high school students from underrepresented communities to explore health professions and their various educational paths.
- Health Career Exploration Program—Martin’s Point also supports the partnership between Maine AHEC Network and Maine Access Immigrant Network and New Mainers Public Health Initiative in offering year-round health career pathway programs to refugee and immigrant students at Portland High School and Lewiston High School. We join program staff to offer hands-on sessions for students to practice medical techniques and feel inspired to pursue health care careers.
