TRICARE Young Adult Prime

TRICARE Young Adult Prime® (TYA) is a premium-based health plan available for purchase by qualified dependents.

The plan includes medical and prescription drug benefits, but excludes dental coverage. You can purchase TYA from Martin’s Point through the US Family Health Plan, our TRICARE Prime option.


Plan Eligibility & Overview

Who is eligible for the TRICARE Young Adult Prime plan?

If you are an adult-age dependent, you may purchase TYA coverage based on the eligibility established by your uniformed-service sponsor and where you live.


You may purchase TYA coverage if you are all of the following:
  • A dependent of an eligible uniformed-service sponsor
  • Unmarried
  • At least age 21 but not yet 26 years old*
  • Not eligible to enroll in an employer-sponsored health plan based on your own employment
  • Not otherwise eligible for TRICARE program coverage


*If you are enrolled in a full-time course of study at an approved institution of higher learning and your sponsor provides more than 50 percent of your financial support, your eligibility may not begin until age 23 or upon graduation, whichever comes first.

Note: Special eligibility conditions may exist.
