Fostering education and research excellence in Maine communities with University of New England.

The University of New England (UNE) is Maine's largest independent university.

Every year, UNE hosts a free health career exploration camp for high school students from rural or underserved communities to participate in hands-on activities to learn about careers in health care. In addition, they learn about the college admissions process.

Health Career Exploration Camp

Martin’s Point teamed up with the University of New England for their Health Careers Exploration Camp—a joint effort to increase the pipeline of future health care workers while advancing health equity.

Held at UNE’s Portland and Biddeford campuses, the event welcomed 30 high school students from both urban underserved and rural communities. Over three days, the students explored 12 health professions through dynamic, hands-on activities and learned about various educational paths. Highlights included a Martin’s Point session on medical assistant roles and a UNE workshop focused on aiding individuals with neurodevelopmental disabilities.
