Before deciding if TRICARE Prime is the right plan for you, it’s important to understand the different types of TRICARE plans and how they compare.
TRICARE is the Department of Defense’s (DoD) worldwide health care program for active duty and retired members of the uniformed services and their families. The DoD contracts with designated providers and regional contractors to administer TRICARE on its behalf.
Martin’s Point is one of the DoD’s designated providers. We provide the US Family Health Plan—a TRICARE Prime option.
.
There are three main types of TRICARE:
TRICARE Prime |
TRICARE Prime is a “managed care” health plan with a network of local, civilian health care providers and facilities. Members choose a network primary care provider (PCP) who provides most of their care and coordinates referrals to specialists and hospitals.
Our TRICARE Prime option, the US Family Health Plan, is one of the top-rated health plans in the country and is offered to active-duty families, and military retirees and their families up to age 65. Benefits include coverage for doctor visits, specialty care, hospitalizations, urgent and emergency care, preventive health care services, and prescriptions. Covered services provided by in-network PCPs, specialists, and health care facilities are covered at no or low cost and have no deductible.
Note: Members covered by a TRICARE Prime plan through a regional contractor may also receive care from a Military Treatment Facility. Martin's Point is not a regional contractor.
TRICARE Select |
TRICARE Select is a self-managed, preferred provider organization (PPO) plan. Referrals aren’t required for most primary and specialty appointments. Deductibles and co-pays or cost shares (a percentage) for covered services apply based on seeing an in- or out-of-network provider.
Martin’s Point does not provide TRICARE Select.
TRICARE For Life |
TRICARE For Life is Medicare-wraparound coverage. Coverage is only for those with Medicare Part A and Part B and who are TRICARE eligible. Coverage doesn’t extend to family members.
Martin’s Point does not provide TRICARE For Life.
