Use your quarterly allowance to purchase from over 1,000 CVS-brand, over-the-counter products.

The Generations Advantage OTC Benefit is administered by CVS Caremark's Over the Counter Health Solutions (OTCHS). Each quarter, you can use your allowance to make qualifying purchases of a variety of over-the-counter items for everyday use or unexpected necessities. 

 

Understanding Your Coverage

Quarterly schedule

The "purchase year" begins in January. You can make multiple purchases throughout each quarter (three-month period) up to your quarterly maximum. Unused amounts do not roll over into the next quarter. All items must be for the member's use only. Quarterly benefit periods are distributed as follows:

Using Your Benefits

Getting started

Each quarter, you’ll receive an amount to spend on over 1,000 CVS-brand, over-the-counter items. This amount will renew every quarter but does not carry over, so be sure to use it before it resets.


Important notes about using this benefit:
  • This is not a reimbursement benefit. You are limited to purchase totals within your quarterly amounts.
  • The Martin's Point Prepaid Mastercard cannot be used to make purchases with this benefit. The card is ONLY for use with the Wellness Wallet and Eyewear benefits.
  • If you purchase beyond your quarterly limit, you’ll pay the difference out of pocket.

Making In-Store Purchases

When making a purchase in person at a participating CVS store, you have the option of using the CVS OTC Health Solutions mobile app or not. Below you'll find instructions for each option.


Option One—using the CVS OTC Health Solutions mobile app

The CVS OTC Health Solutions mobile app is a convenient way to find your nearest CVS Pharmacy, including store hours and directions. It provides a quick way to see if an item is eligible for purchase through the benefit. It also makes the check-out process quick and easy.  

It is not required to use the app to make in-store purchases using your CVS OTC Health Solutions benefit. You can make in-store purchases without using the mobile app.

You can download the app via the app store on your cell phone or tablet:

Apple Store (iPhone users) | Google Store (Android users)

Find Eligible Items
  • Open the OTC Health Solutions app on your mobile device and use it to scan the item’s barcode. The app will instantly tell you if it’s eligible. 

Checking Out

At the register, tell the cashier you are using the CVS OTC Health Solutions program for your purchases.

  • Show the cashier your digital barcode from the app.
  • Once the cashier processes your order, you will receive your receipt with purchase details. Please review your receipt carefully in case the order must be canceled, which is only possible while you are still at the store. Your order details are also visible in the OTC Health Solutions app.


Option Two—not using the CVS OTC Health Solutions mobile app

Find Eligible Items
  • Eligible items will be marked with a blue shelf label like this:   OTC App Icon

Checking Out
  • At the register, tell the cashier you are using the CVS OTC Health Solutions program for your purchases.
  • Provide the cashier with your name and date of birth.



Important Notes:

  • If you go over your allowed benefit quarterly amount. you will have the option to adjust your order or pay the difference out of pocket.
  • All stand-alone CVS Pharmacy stores participate in the in-store-purchasing option. CVS pharmacies located within other stores (for example, in a Target store) DO NOT participate.
