Please ensure EHR documentation of statin prescribing in this population, noting exclusions.
The Statin Use in Persons with Diabetes (SUPD) Star Measure is a key performance metric used in Medicare Part D to assess the quality of care provided to individuals with diabetes.
The SUPD measure is the percentage of Medicare Part D beneficiaries aged 40-75 with diabetes who are dispensed at least one statin medication during the measurement year.
Our goal is to ensure eligible patients with diabetes are prescribed a statin unless they meet certain exclusion criteria. Documentation of exclusions each year are important to maintain accurate information and properly exclude them from this measure calculation.
Patients are excluded when in Hospice or Palliative Care, have a diagnosis of End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), a documented history of rhabdomyolysis or other serious myopathy, pregnancy, patients with acute liver failure or liver disease, or when a patient has a documented allergy or intolerance to all statins.
