Paul Kasuba, MD

President and Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Paul Kasuba is a seasoned physician executive with a history of working across the health care industry, and experience ranging from primary care to delivery system and health plan leadership.

Most recently, Paul served as the Chief Medical Officer for Tufts Health Plan—where he was responsible for overseeing the health care services staff and for developing strategies for improving medical outcomes and reducing costs. During his time there, Paul helped develop new opportunities to partner with area hospitals and physicians, and served as the clinical spokesperson.

Paul was Chief of the Division of Internal Medicine at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Boston and Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine. While at St. Elizabeth's, Paul served as Vice President and Medical Director of the Caritas Physician Network's Community Practice Division and as President of St. Elizabeth's Health Professionals IPA.

Paul also served as Chair of the Medical Directors Committee for the Alliance of Community Health Plans, working to help shape the committee's strategic priorities to promote high quality, affordable care, and superior consumer experience for ACHP members.

Since 2016, Paul has held a seat on the Board of Directors at Martin’s Point Health Care, and served as Board Chair from 2018-2020. As President and CEO, Paul is responsible for leading the senior executive team and setting the strategic vision for the organization to assure that Martin’s Point Health Care delivers the care that every person deserves.

Paul is a graduate of Tufts University School of Medicine. He received his bachelor’s degree with honors in political science from Duke University.

Teresa Nizza

Chief Human Resources Officer

Teresa Nizza is a seasoned executive with a background in human resources, organizational development, and transformational leadership in both for- and not-for-profit organizations. Teresa has over 20 years of progressive experience in a variety of industries, including health care, health insurance, and higher education. She has held leadership positions for several large organizations, including Anthem, Central Maine Health Care, Johnson & Higgins, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland, Tufts Health Plan, and Tom’s of Maine.

As Chief Human Resources Officer, Teresa is responsible for the overall stewardship of People and Culture at Martin’s Point. In addition to her Human Resources leadership responsibilities, Teresa also leads our Executive Office Administration and our Martin’s Point Management System team focused on organizational process improvement.

Teresa is a member of 100+ Women Who Care Southern Maine and the Olympia Snowe Women’s Leadership Institute. Teresa holds a master’s degree in multi-cultural ministry from the Franciscan School of Theology in Berkeley, California, and a doctorate in Transformation Leadership from Boston University.

 

Amanda Jackson

Chief Financial Officer

Amanda Jackson has a wealth of financial leadership experience, most recently serving as Chief Financial Officer at Senior Whole Health, a division of Magellan Health in Massachusetts. There she oversaw a $1.7B budget, helped create a business model for an innovative health plan for those on both Medicare and Medicaid, and developed a growth strategy to address growing competition and new regulations. Prior to that, Amanda held positions at Commonwealth Care Alliance in Massachusetts and WellMed Medical Management in Texas.

As Chief Financial Officer, Amanda ensures appropriate management of our financial position, so we can remain financially sound to continue to provide care to our members, patients, and communities.

Amanda earned her bachelor’s in business administration with a specialization in finance from The Ohio State University, and her MBA from Simmons College.

 

 

Dan McCormack

Chief Operating Officer, Delivery System

Dan McCormack has over 25 years of experience on both the insurance and delivery system sides of health care—including his 15 years as CEO of InterMed and as an executive at Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield.

As Chief Operating Officer for our Delivery System, Dan leads our strategic efforts to drive growth, promote workforce development, improve patient experience, and enhance physician engagement.

Dan serves on the boards of Gorham Savings Bank and the University of New England. He received his bachelor’s degree in economics from Harvard College, his MBA from the University of Southern Maine, and served as a US Air Force Medical Service Corps officer.

Steve Amendo

Chief Marketing Officer

Steve Amendo has more than 20 years of marketing experience in agency and corporate environments in both for- and not-for-profit organizations.

As Chief Marketing Officer, Steve is responsible for the marketing efforts for Martin’s Point, including customer acquisition and retention, internal and external communications, community engagement, PR and media relations, brand identity, customer insights and experience, and business development and market analysis.

Steve is currently the Vice Chair for the Board of Directors for the Southern Maine YMCA. He is a member of the Rippleffect Board of Directors and is a member of the Live + Work Maine Advisory Board. Steve holds a bachelor’s degree from Hobart and William Smith Colleges and an MBA from Northeastern University.

David Kleinhanzl

Chief Operating Officer, Health Plans

David Kleinhanzl has over 25 years of experience working in health plan administration, specializing in the oversight of Medicare, Medicaid, and Long-Term Care operations and insurance programs. Formerly, David served in roles as the President of Network at Vesta Healthcare, and as President of Senior Whole Health of New York (Magellan Healthcare).

As Chief Operating Officer of Health Plans, David leads our strategic efforts to drive growth and ensure the quality and performance of Martin’s Point Health Plans.

David earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry, and his MBA in Health Systems Management, Finance, and New Venture Development from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.


Jeffrey Brown

Chief Information and Digital Officer

Jeffrey L. Brown is a technology professional with a background in health care information technology, operations, and business executive leadership. He joined Martin’s Point in 2017 with more than 15 years of progressive experience in a variety of industries, including academic medical and research centers, a top-five consulting firm, not-for-profit organizations, and electronic health records vendors.

Jeff is a seasoned strategist, most recently holding CIO positions at Seattle Children’s Hospital (WA) and Lawrence General Hospital (MA). Over the years, he has shared his wealth of experience with students in health informatics, health care analytics, and health management by teaching and developing leading educational programs at Brandeis University, Northeastern University, the College of William and Mary, and the University of Washington.

As Chief Information and Digital Officer, Jeff leads our strategic efforts to enhance and advance our information, digitization, security, and technology systems to ensure a secure and sophisticated IT business that supports our shared services, health plan, and delivery system.

Jeff holds a bachelor’s degree in cognitive psychology, received his master’s degree in health care informatics along with his executive master’s in management and leadership from MIT Sloan.

Jeffrey Smagula

General Counsel & Chief Legal Officer

Jeffrey Smagula has over 23 years of legal and compliance experience in the health care sector. Most recently, Jeff was Counsel, Healthcare and Life Sciences Practice Group at Verrill Dana, LLP, Boston, MA. Prior to that, Jeff spent six years as the Vice President and Chief Compliance and Ethics Officer at Tufts Health Plan, MA, where he led efforts to identify and mitigate legal and compliance risk for the non-profit insurer.

As Chief Legal Office and General Counsel, Jeff will ensure Martin’s Point remains compliant with federal and state statutes and regulations. 

Jeff holds a bachelor’s degree in government studies from Harvard College, and received his JD from Georgetown University Law Center.


Megan Dockendorf

Chief Actuary and Senior Vice President

Megan Dockendorf has over a decade of financial experience in the health care industry. She spent 10 years at Mercer consulting with states on their Medicaid program, focusing largely on capitation rate development, rate negotiations with Health Plans, as well as regulatory interpretation and implementation. After her tenure at Mercer, Megan joined Magellan Health, later acquired by Molina Healthcare, where she supported the financial monitoring, evaluation, and bid development for a fully integrated duals program which covered all member medical, behavioral, pharmaceutical, and long-term care needs.

Most recently, Megan has served as Martin’s Point’s Vice President of Finance, overseeing the accounting, financial planning and analytics, medical economics, and actuarial functions. In her role as Chief Actuary, Megan will continue to oversee and enhance the medical economic and actuarial functions, and will grow her team to include the Health Plan Risk Adjustment department. With her oversight of these three departments, she will be able to foster synergies between medical expense and revenue to help improve our financial interpretation and expectation as an organization.

Megan earned her bachelor’s in actuarial science from The University of St. Thomas in Minnesota; she achieved Associateship (ASA) in the Society of Actuaries in 2014, and is a member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).
