Honoring Maine soldiers through The Summit Project

Martin’s Point employees joined The Summit Project, a living memorial that honors fallen Maine soldiers through meaningful hikes carrying engraved stones representing each hero.

Stones that tell stories

Participants carry a memorial stone while summiting a Maine peak. Each stone is chosen by the soldier’s family and represents their story and legacy.

Employees Stacey Pardales and Kimberly MacDonald carried stones for SPC Justin Buxbaum and SGT Edmund McDonald, both of whom served in Iraq and Afghanistan. The hike gave them a personal connection to the soldiers and their families.

Shared challenges and connections

Hikers face difficult terrain and weather while reflecting on their mission. Through this experience, Stacey and Kimberly formed strong bonds with families, hikers, and each other.

“It’s very moving to carry the memorial stone for a fallen hero,” says Stacey. “It gives you strength.”
