Medicare statin use in persons with diabetes (SUPD) quality measure

Please ensure EHR documentation of statin prescribing in this population, noting exclusions.

The Statin Use in Persons with Diabetes (SUPD) Star Measure is a key performance metric used in Medicare Part D to assess the quality of care provided to individuals with diabetes.

The SUPD measure is the percentage of Medicare Part D beneficiaries aged 40–75 with diabetes who are dispensed at least one statin medication during the measurement year.

Our goal is to ensure eligible patients with diabetes are prescribed a statin unless they meet certain exclusion criteria. Documentation of exclusions each year is important to maintain accurate information and properly exclude them from this measure calculation.
