Portland Wheelers brings joy and mobility to individuals with physical or intellectual disabilities by offering therapeutic, volunteer-led bike rides on adaptive trikes.
Participants (“wheelers”) do not need to be physically mobile or have advanced cognitive abilities. Some ride at partner programs and care facilities, while others participate in the “Come to Us” program, meeting volunteers with trikes at accessible outdoor locations. Wheelers are safely transferred into specially designed trikes—some even using lifts. Once secure and helmeted, the ride begins. Medical equipment can also be attached for safety and comfort. See how the trikes work.
Martin’s Point is proud to support Portland Wheelers through employee volunteerism and funding that expands access to outdoor experiences and connection for local residents.
Our Portland campus also serves as a ride site for wheelers and families who aren’t connected to care facilities—helping make joy and mobility accessible to more people in our community.
