How to protect yourself and others this flu season

The best way to reduce your risk of flu and complications is to get a flu vaccine.

Although flu seasons can vary, increased flu cases typically start in October and can continue into May. The peak time for flu is between December and February. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends flu shots for everyone six months and older.

Steps to prevent the spread of germs

  • Avoid sick contacts and limit your contact with others when you are sick. You should be fever free for 24 hours before leaving your house for nonmedical reasons.
  • Cover your sneezes and coughs. Clean and disinfect shared surfaces.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water.
  • Use hand sanitizer if washing is not an option.
